It cannot be denied that in the 40 plus years that have passed since the 80s, a lot has changed. Our lives are fully documented and tracked on social media, we do much of our work and studying on computers now. And mobile phones have essentially found a way to control every waking moment of our lives.

It is a far cry from the flying cars and personal spacecraft that we were promised, and when you think about things that way, a mobile phone with internet connection is a pretty lousy compromise. We could have been holidaying on the moon, or at least had the ability to fly our car to the Caribbean for a nice weekend get away from time to time. So we figured, that if the present is letting us down, then why not perk ourselves up with a dandy list of memes that celebrate how awesome our lives were back in the 80s. You know, when the promise of flying cars was still a thing, a.k.a. the good old days.

Yes, this medieval contraption was still a thing while we were growing up. Though it has to be said that the particular example they are giving here makes the whole situation feel much more desperate and intense. Like, you can imagine a ten-year-old on a Saturday morning almost slicing off an appendage, trying their best to get to the chocolate inside.

Not going to lie, at first we thought that this was some sort of revealing meme that Dennis Nerdy was actually in the Goonies. Sure the timelines might not have synced up just right, but dang, he would have been a good Goonie.
